Secrets of Success from Top Producing Agents

The majority of real estate is sold by just a small fraction of agents. Last year, in the Chicagoland area, 74% of residential transactions were completed by just 20% of the agents. The Realtors in this elite group are often referred to as “Top Producers”. What makes a top producer so successful?

Our marketing team sat down with Evan Johnson to unlock the secrets. As an owner of Real People Realty, the 2nd largest independent brokerage in the state of Illinois, Mr. Johnson has coached hundreds of top producing agents. Because of the firm’s success, Chicago Agent Magazine has nominated him as a candidate for industry MVP in the city of Chicago in back to back years. Mr. Johnson says that there are commonalities between these “Top Producers” and practices you can implement now to transform your business. Below are a few of his tips:

Take Control of Social Media To Build Online Presence

Social media is growing faster than ever and it is imperative to have a strong online presence today. Social media has become the 2nd most popular source of clients after referrals. A top-producing agent will need a lot of leads through their social media accounts, but won’t have enough time to personally maintain the pages or drive web traffic.

Mr. Johnson recommends leveraging a combination of ads, auto posters, & specific content strategies. This will begin to have an immediate impact on your business. That is why Mr.Johnson provides multiple social media tools & strategies for free to all Real People Realty agents.

Hire A Business Coach To Rise Above The Rest

Virtually every top-producing agent has a business coach. A coach can help you create business plans, manage your time, examine key metrics, and help you navigate challenging situations. Mr. Johnson says that Real People Realty’s support staff will individually work with all Real People Realty agents, whether they have 30 days of experience or 30 years of experience.

Increase Your Compensation

Many times agents pay 20%, 30%, or even 40% of their hard-earned money to a sponsoring broker. This presents a huge problem. It’s extremely difficult to have a marketing budget, increase your income, or leave a full-time job if you are missing out on a significant amount of the money that you earned.

Competitive compensation plans are guaranteed at Real People Realty. Mr Johnson said, “It’s very challenging to grow a business when you have a 20-40% royalty to pay off each sale or in the case of real estate a 20-40% commission split. Why put that hurdle in front of you with your commission? Most businesses in America can’t function like that and real estate isn’t an exception to that rule. Capital is a massive component to scaling a business to new heights.”  As one of the owners of Real People Realty, he elects to provide a 100% commission plan for every agent. This means that rather than taking a huge commission split, an average Real People Realty agent pays just around $495 per deal.

Last year, Real People Realty ranked in the top 0.4% of brokerages in the nation by transaction closed according to Real Trends.
